In addition to Classics books in the main university library, the Classics programme at the University of KwaZulu-Natal has a reading room of about 5,000 books and 70 journals which are used for teaching and research. The Loeb Classical Library is housed in Classics, as well as a comprehensive range of reference works, commentaries, translations, and monographs on ancient art, literature and history. Books in the library have been donated by past lecturers. The library is called the Whiteley Library in honour of Mr. S. L. Whiteley. Students enjoy the quiet working environment of the reading room.
