Museum of Classical Archaeology - Greece
|
After an era of widespread poverty and decline in skills, commonly known as the
dark ages, a cultural revival in about 800BC accompanied the emergence
of the city states across Greece.
With this came increased prosperity and a climate which encouraged
artists and artisans to experiment with their subject matter. The Archaic Period realizes some of the
finest art and artists in ancient times.
The Museum of Classical Archaeology houses a variety of ceramic ware, sculpture and
objects of interest located from various parts of the Mediterranean. The selection of ceramics
ranges from the Geometric period, through the height of the Archaic Period to pieces
dated to the Hellenstic era.
